My quizzes are proving very popular! I hope you find them handy for your next pub-quiz or quiz night!
QUIZ EXPECTATIONS
Here are nine easy steps to hosting a successful quiz.
1. Style of quiz.
Before you start anything, what style of quiz are you going to organise? Is it going to be on a grand scale or and intimate gathering?
Where are you going to host the quiz?
Then decide how many people do you want on a team? Is it important to have equal team sizes?
2. Entrance fees.
Are you going to charge an entrance fee? If so, then £1 per person as perfectly acceptable, unless it's for charity, then the purpose is to make as much money as possible.
To make more money from your event, use the joker card that's included in this quiz pack. The idea is to sell the joker card to your contestants before the quiz commences, so they can use it only once during the quiz in any of the rounds to obtain double points.
3. Prizes.
What type of prize are you going to give away? Big cash prizes will attract a vast array of 'Oracles' from all over the place and smaller cash and fun prizes will bring in the local community.
Also, ask local businesses to donate a prize or ask them for a sponsorship deal if you use their logo. My motto is 'If you don't ask, you don't get'.
4. Advertise.
Publicity for any event is extremely important. Without any contestants, there can't be a quiz! Generate your quiz through word of mouth, in the local press and radio. Be enthusiastic but not overbearing. You don't want to scare any potential contestants away at this stage, do you?
Use posters and leaflets for the promotion. Make them colourful so that they stand out. And make them look professional too. Use a computer to design your poster. You don't want your fantastic quiz to look amateurish, do you?
5. Brand the event.
As today's society is all about image, name the club or pub who's hosting the event. Also mention the company who's organised the event too. Use their logo around the venue and in your advertising campaign.
6. Decorate your venue.
Theme your venue to match your quiz. For example, if it's a St. Valentine's Day event, use large hearts and flowers around your venue. Decorate your quiz table with a red cloth, or leave a handful of sweets, wrapped in red and white paper on each table for your contestants to munch on. Play love songs in the background, but make sure none of them are in your quiz!
If you create an occasion for your event, your contestants will expect something different is going to happen, which will arouse their curiosity. Be first. Be daring. Be different. Stand out from your competitors and become a leader with your events. You deserve the best. So be the best.
7. Be organised.
Make a checklist of what to do. Tick off your duties as you go along. Check to see if your PA system is working. Have you got enough paper and pens / pencils? Do you have enough table and chairs? Do you have the prize? But don't be too restricted by your list. It''s only there to help and guide you, making sure that you don't forget anything important. Change it where necessary. You're in charge. You're in control. And when you're organised, you'll look professional and the event will be a success.
8. The event.
Who is going to be the quiz host for the event? Has the quiz host presented this kind of event before? If not, have them practice reading out the questions a few times in private. And make sure that they are confident and can speak clearly in front of your audience. It's no good having a shrinking violet mumbling the questions over the P.A. system, is it?
And don't forget to get a helper for the quiz host. If someone doesn't want to present the event, but still wants to be involved, then playing the part of the helper, will be invaluable. With their organisational skills of giving out the quiz sheets for each round and marking the questions as the quiz host is talking on the microphone, will aid the quiz and make the event run smoothly.
9. Have fun.
This is by far the most important part of the event. You can have the best dressed venue, a fabulous prize and lots of contestants. But if they're not having the fun, the event will be over in a flash. Word will soon get around saying how dull your events can be, ending up with no one attending your next one. Who would want to be known as the joke who's unable organise a party in a brewery? Certainly not me!
Create excitement around your event. Give your contestants a theatrical experience. Tell them how much fun they're going to have. How much fun they're having during the quiz and how much fun they have had when its finished!
Remember. These are only guidelines. It's up to you to make your event the best ever!
Become a cutting edge quiz host. Stand out from all the rest. Treat your contestants to a showman's approach to the proceedings. Entertain your audience with fun and laughter. Give them what they deserve: a value for money, good quality night out. Exceed their expectations and watch them come running back for more!
Good luck and have an amazing event.
